Tall Trees
The height of a tree is calculated from the mid point of ground (exactly halfway between the high and low points of ground) to the top leaves or dead branches or twigs. Many of the trees listed below have dead tops and are slowly losing height and this is noted under 'Condition of top'. You will also notice that a high number of the tallest trees occur in the Styx Valley. Most of these are in the Andromeda Reserve an area only about 50ha in size located ioff Jacques Road.. All trees are Eucalyptus regnans except for 'Neemina Loggorale Meena', which is a Eucalyptus globulus and 'Princess Picabella' which is a Eucalyptus obliqua.
Giant Trees
The largest trees listed below have been ranked by wood volume. There is a small problem here - In some trees wood volume was calculated by measuring only the wood in the trunk; for others the trunk and the largest branches were included; and for a small number of trees, all wood from trunks, large branches and small branches was used to calculate the final number. That is why I have included all these numbers where available. It sometimes takes a team of 4 or more climbers 2+ days to obtain the more detailed measurements. That is why it is not always possible to do this type of detailed analysis on all the biggest trees. All trees listed are Eucalyptus regnans, except for 'Rullah Longatyle' and 'Lathamus Keep' which are Eucalyptus globulus and 'Gothmog' which is Eucalyptus obliqua.
